• College of Medical sciences was co sponsored of the annual conference of Gujarat Medical
association, which was held in Bhavnagar in October 2009
• Dr. Kamlesh Bavishi, Professor & head Surgery Department of College of medical sciences
was chairman of scientific committee
• Dr. M V Mehta Dean of the college was chairman of one scientific session
• Dr. B D Mankad, Professor & Head Medicine gave guest lecture on “New trend in
treatment in P F Malaria “ and “ Dangue Fever”
• College of Medical science, intends to start the two ambitious project since centre still has
been receiving the large number of TB patients
a) Prevalence of HIV in TB patients
b) Incidence of MDR Tb in HIV patients
This project will be jointly carried out by Department of Medicine, Department of TB and chest disease and department of Microbiology in collaboration with NACO and Gujarat AIDS control society (G-SAC)
Awards /Achievement received by students/faculty:
• Dr. B D mankad, professor and Head of Medicine, and his team presented five papers at
international conference.
• Dr. Mankad could not attend the conference due to pre occupation but his team
presented all five papers at ISHIELD- International symposium held on 24-26 March/2010
are MARSEILLE, FRANCE. These papers include;
1. Side effect associated with use of Nevirepine in HIV treatment naïve patients with
respect to baseline CD4 count
2. Our experience in second line ART at State AIDS Clinical Expert Panel clinic (SACEP
Clinic) Ahmedabad
3. Outcome of first line ART with respect to treatment failure it ART centre at BJ Medical
College
4. NRTI Side effects in HIV patients attending the ART Centre at BJ Medical College
5. Service outcome of ART post prophylaxis for HIV exposure among health care workers

Award Achievements by Faculty or students
DR. B D MANKAD:
• Dr. Mankad has been appointed as member of SACEP Clinic at BJ Medical College by Govt.
of India. This clinic is responsible for providing second line ART to resistant first line
patients. This is only centre for state of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and MP. As approved by Govt.
of India.
• Dr. Mankad was founder president of this clinical trial clinic from 2008 Dec to 2009

• Dr. Mankad is Ex officio member of MCQ lab of the BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad.
• Attended training workshop at Thailand/Bangkok in Nov/2008 for training in second line
ART
• Dr. Mankad Gave guest lecturer in Bhavnagar in Oct 2008 at state level conference on
Malaria and dengue
• Dr. Mankad attended more than four state or national level conferences of various
subspecialty in Medicine and was either moderator or chairman of one or another session
• Unfortunate incident happened last year when one first year MBBS Hardik Ranoliya student
died untimely on 31st Dec.2009. College has declared gold medal in his name for student
who highest marks in his name.
